CYBER CRIMES - A SITIATED WORLD

In 2020 we saw the world being besieged by the Covid-19 virus and by coordinated and targeted attacks and cyber crimes targeted at critical infrastructures with an emphasis on the energy sector.

With the migration from work to the home office, the ICT (Information and Communication Technology) and Information Security teams were burdened with a herculean task of changing the entire philosophy of using computer equipment, disrupting the entire infrastructure assembled over the years. Workers quickly left the protection of the local network and went to work from home, often with their own equipment.

CYBER CRIMES HAVE CHANGED THE CORPORATE DIGITAL ENVIRONMENT

Information security professionals had to hire links, update firewalls, antivirus and other protection devices. However, this equipment is not available for immediate delivery and in this temporary vulnerability organizations or individuals who commit cybercrime have intensified their attacks, with success in many of them.

At the same time, cyber-terrorist groups and hacktivists linked to environmental movements have chosen the energy sector as a priority target, especially those that produce fossil fuels or use “dirty” sources for energy production. < / p>

According to FBI reports , organized cyber crime will pay off 1 trillion dollars in 2020. This business is increasingly profitable and the difficulty of tracking criminals and cryptocurrency payments makes blocking assets practically impossible. 1

SOLUTIONS TO PREVENT CYBER ATTACKS [H2]

Despite this dismal scenario, there is still a solution for companies to continue operating without suffering ransonware (data hijacking), denial of service attacks or other types of attacks and cyber crimes.

Companies should structure their information security departments by reinforcing network and security monitoring, using their internal team or hiring specialized companies with a NOC (Network Operation Center) and SOC (Security Operation Center). For these services, we are able to comply with current rules and legislation.

Our goal is to meet demands for outsourcing the monitoring and operation of information security. This, in most cases, provides a more satisfactory result than the internal team, freeing them for the company's core activities and responding to incidents and calls locally.

With the constant monitoring services of the network and security parameters, we aim to achieve efficiency to mitigate the risks of attacks and cyber crimes. Tracking intelligence reports and participating in cyber threat sharing ecosystems is also a good practice for taking preventive action.

The scenario and working relationships have changed and the more connected we are, the more exposed we are. As there are no alternatives but to live in this hyperconnected world, monitoring and prevention are the best actions to remain safe.
